Verse 1: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and everything within me, bless His holy name. [SAAS]

Verse 1: Praise the Lord, O my soul! I shall praise the Lord while I live; I shall sing to my God as long as I exist. [SAAS]

Save us, O Son of God, who are wondrous in the saints. We sing to You, Alleluia.

Verse 2: Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob; his hope is in the Lord his God.

Verse 3: The Lord shall reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

Mode 4.

Verse 1: God is wondrous in His saints, the God of Israel. [SAAS]

Verse 2: To the saints on His earth, in them the Lord magnified all His will.

Mode 4. You who were lifted.

Ὁ ὑψωθεὶς ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ.

The holy martyrs of the Lord, Saint Julitta * and her all-blessed son, the three-year-old Cyricus, * appeared before the governor’s tribunal to be judged * and courageously proclaimed that they called themselves Christians. * They were not at all afraid of the threats of the tyrants. * And now in heaven they are wearing crowns * as they are standing near Christ with exultant joy. [SD]

An optional alternative to the Antiphons are the Typika (Psalms 102 and 145), and the Beatitudes with the appointed troparia, which are provided here.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

O all-glorious Martyrs, you have receive worthily * access to the heavenly chambers, a luminous repose, * glory that never ends; * for by your labors and contests, * you completely vanquished all the devil’s stings and darts. [SD]

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

As a most handsome fledgling of a most virtuous dove, * you were imitating your mother when you stood up to him * who sought to capture you with his deceptive cajoling, * glorious St. Cyricus, who are invincible. [SD]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

That proud serpent, who opened his mouth against heaven’s heights, * making boastful threats to annihilate earth and all mankind, * was thoroughly destroyed, dashed to the ground, by a child, * innocent St. Cyricus, armed with the Cross of Christ. [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Theotokion.

When the super-essential Logos, who made everything, * dwelt within your all-blameless body, O all-immaculate * Virgin, He never left the Father’s bosom. Without change, * He appeared in body and He deified mankind. [SD]

Ode vi. Mode pl. 4. N/M (I pour out my supplication.)

Τὴν δέησιν ἐκχεῶ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

The all-lauded Martyrs sailed the stormy waters of endless torture, steered by the Cross; and they found anchorage in the calm and fair havens, having drowned the invisible Pharaoh in the sea of their blood. [SD]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

O Julitta, the city of Iconium, where you were born and raised, leaps for joy. Tarsus also boasts today, celebrating your memory; for it was there that you ran the race of martyrdom with your son, and you were awarded crowns for your victory. [SD]

Glory.

O all-lauded Martyr Julitta, you paid no attention to the various tortures. You were like a beautiful swallow, who took off with your fledgling, and flew over all the snares of the serpent, and wisely alighted on the heavenly mansions. [SD]

O Virgin, eradicate the wicked thoughts of my soul, with your intercession acting like a sharp sickle. I entreat you to make me bear good fruit. For you gave birth to the God our Savior, the Farmer of all. [SD]

O Protection of Christians that never falls, intercession with the Creator that never fails, we sinners beg you, do not ignore the voices of our prayers. O good Lady, we implore you, quickly come unto our aid, when we cry out to you with faith. Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos who protect now and ever those who honor you. [SD]

Brethren, when I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Make love your aim, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one hears, but he utters mysteries in the spirit. On the other hand, he who prophesies speaks to men for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Mt. 17:24 – 27; 18:1 – 4

At that time, the collectors of the half-shekel tax went up to Peter and said, “Does not your teacher pay the tax?” He said, “Yes.” And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from others?” And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel; take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.” At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

Glory to You, O Christ our God. Glory to You.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, of the holy and glorious Martyrs Cyricus and his Mother Julitta, whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
