Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. O Lord, Your works shall be magnified greatly; You made all things in wisdom; the earth was filled with Your creation. There is this great and spacious sea: the creeping things are there without number; the living things are there, both small and great; there the ships pass through; there is this dragon You formed to play therein. All things wait upon You, that You may give them food in due season. When You give it to them, they shall gather it; when You open Your hand, all things shall be filled with Your goodness. Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips.

Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins.

Martyrs, you did not renounce the Savior Christ, nor bow down before * pagan idols to worship them, * even though you were oppressed, tortured and ill-treated, * shut up in a dungeon, and cut to pieces by a sword, * finally dying a painful violent death. * For this you were accounted worthy to receive heaven’s radiance. * And you earnestly pray for all * to the Lord, O all-blessed Saints. Today let us extol those God-bearing Fathers, whom we call the mystical trumpets of the Spirit, for when they declared theology, it was like they were playing harmonious music in the middle of the Church. They taught that the Trinity is one, unchanging essence and Godhead. They were the front-line defenders of the Orthodox, and they brought down the heresy of Arius. Now they always intercede with the Lord, that He have mercy on our souls. [SD]

Guard them at all times, this evening and the coming night, from every enemy, from all demonic activity against them, from unprofitable reflections, and from wicked thoughts.

Ὅλην ἀποθέμενοι.

When the holy Fathers had assembled all of the science * of the soul, with the divine * Spirit they examined all things synodally, * and inscribed the divine and all-blessed Symbol, * as if God himself had written it. * Therein they lucidly and most truly teach that the Logos is * without beginning and of one * essence with the One who engendered Him. * Teaching thus, these famous and truly happy godly-minded men * are clearly faithfully following * that which the Apostles taught. [SD]

Verse: Blessed are You, O Lord God of our fathers, for You are praiseworthy and exalted beyond measure unto the ages. [SAAS]

When the foremost preachers of the Gospel dogmas and pious * Orthodox traditions of Christ received within themselves the enlightenment * and divine radiance * of the Holy Spirit, * they declared the supernatural * oracle openly * to be their opinion inspired by God, * the Creed, in phraseology * concise, while sublime in significance. * Clearly these enlightened * and blessed men, receiving from on high * this revelation did promulgate * the decision taught by God. O holy Fathers, you preserved with precision the Apostolic traditions. You decreed as Orthodox dogma that the Holy Trinity is consubstantial, and in your Councils you refuted the blasphemous teachings of Arius. You denounced Macedonius as a Pneumatomachian. You went on to judge Nestorius, Eutyches, Dioscorus, Sabellius, and Severus the Acephalite. Now we ask you to pray for us, that we may be free of all heresy and may preserve our lives spotless in the faith. [SD]

May He who ascended from us into heaven in glory, and sat at the right hand of God the Father, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
