Looking up at the entrance to the sepulcher, then unable to endure the Angel’s radiance, the Myrrh-bearing Women were frightened; and perplexed they said, “Has He been stolen, who opened Paradise to the Robber? Has He arisen, who before His Passion announced His rising?” Indeed, Christ God has truly risen, granting life and resurrection to those in the netherworld. [GOASD]

In faith came the woman of Samaria to the well and she beheld You who are the water of wisdom. When she had fully drunk thereof, this famous lady inherited the kingdom on high for eternity. [SD]

Oikos.

Let us listen to John as he teaches us of divine mysteries that took place in Samaria: how the Lord conversed with a woman, after asking her for water, He who collected the waters in their gatherings, and who shares the throne with the Father and Spirit. For our famous Savior came seeking His image, for the kingdom on high for eternity. [SD]

On June 8 we commemorate the translation of the relics of the Holy Great-martyr Theodore the Commander.

On this day is the Synaxis of the most-holy Theotokos and of the Archangel Michael in Sosthenio.

On this day we also commemorate the Holy Martyrs Nicander and Marcian.

On this day we commemorate the holy Martyr Kalliopi.

On this day, the Holy New-Martyr Theophanes, who was witnessed in Constantinople in the year 1559, died by torture.

The Well of life’s source, Jesus our Savior, came to the well of Jacob the Patriarch, and He asked a Samaritan woman for a drink of water. When she objected that a Jew would have no dealings with her, the wise Creator diverts her attention with His sweet words, and gets her to ask instead for the eternal water. When she had received it, she proclaimed it to all, saying, “Come and see the Knower of things hidden; He is God, and He has come in the flesh to save humanity.” [SD]

Mode 4. To a brave one.

The Samaritan woman came to the well in the heat of noon; * she beheld there sitting the ever-flowing source * that gives relief from the passions; she requested that she receive * living water from that source, * overflowing abundantly. * And when she received * from the Logos the free gift of salvation, she no longer needs to visit * the earthly and perishable well. [SD]

Verse: Stretch Your bow, and grant prosperity, and reign, because of truth and goodness. [SAAS]

The Samaritan woman thought * that, according to Jewish law, * she and Christ, a Jew, should have no dealings at all. * Being the wise Maker, He diverts her focus by His sweet words, * and He gets her to request * living water, that she might have that life-giving drink; * which, when she drinks, she runs back to the city and conveys the living water * to all who hear and believe her words. [SD]

Verse: You loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. [SAAS]
