Κατεπλάγη Ἰωσήφ.

By Your voluntary will, O Savior, You endured the Cross, * In a new tomb mortal men buried Your body, O Lord, * who by a word had created the universe. * Death, the ancient foe, was restrained by You * and forcefully deprived of the spoils it had. * And all the souls in Hades sang and glorified * Your resurrection, which gave them life, * “Christ the Giver of Life has risen! * And He abides forever!” [GOASD]

For compunction.

Verse: O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, nor chasten me in Your anger. [SAAS]

Mode 4.

O my soul, meditate on how we shall stand before the Judge in that frightening hour, how those intimidating thrones will be set up, and the actions of all people will be examined. The Judge will be unmoved. Before the tribunal fire will go forth, like a roaring wild sea, engulfing the guilty. Meditate on these things, O my soul, and correct your ways. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Your Church is arrayed in the holy blood of Your Martyrs who witnessed throughout the world, as though in purple and fine linen. Through them she cries to You, Christ our God, “Send down to Your people Your tender love, grant peace from above to Your commonwealth, and to our souls Your great mercy.” [SD]

Awesome is the mystery, and paradoxical is the miracle: how the Virgin carried You, the Creator of all, and how after childbirth she remained whole and a virgin. We pray You, who were born of her, to confirm the Faith, calm the nations, and give peace to the world, O benevolent God. [SD]

Mode 4. You who were lifted.

Ὁ ὑψωθεὶς ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ.

The holy Hierarch of Christ, Metrophanis, * the Church’s shining lamp, endorsing the dogma * along with the God-bearing Fathers, openly declared * that the Logos is of one essence with God the Father. * He was the first bishop of the new ruling city. * Clearly he had prophetic grace from God. * And therefore let us extol him unison. [SD]

Oikos.

That revealer of God’s ineffable mysteries, the mouthpiece of Christ, yes, the great Apostle Paul, seeing the future long before, described the one who would be worthy of the episcopal see of the Queen of cities. For he said, “It was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, and united in spirit to the celestial hosts on high, who with confidence enters the Holy of Holies, and ever draws near to the throne of grace, asking that mercy be given us, that we may find grace to help in time of need.” So, duty-bound let us sing his praise, as one who has clearly had the grace from God, and let us extol him unison. On June 4 we commemorate our Father among the Saints Metrophanes, Archbishop of Constantinople.

We also commemorate our devout Mother Sophia, who lived her life in asceticism.

The holy monk-Martyr John, Abbot ofthe Monastery of Monagria, died by being put in a sack and drowned in the sea.

The devout Alonios reposed in peace.

The Holy Maria and Martha, sisters of Lazarus, reposed in peace.

By their holy intercessions, Christ God, have mercy on us. Amen.

Therefore, since you dismissed error and deception, you gush forth gifts of healing to the faithful, as you unceasingly intercede, for the salvation of our souls. [SD]
