We have come to the midpoint of the days * that commence with Easter and the saving Resurrection * and that conclude with the feast of holy Pentecost. * Connecting these two greatest feasts, * drawing splendor from both of them, * this holiday is splendid. * We solemnly celebrate Mid-Pentecost, * anticipating the Master’s glorious Ascension. Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

So the woman of Samaria came to draw water. Seeing her, the Savior said to her, “Give me a drink of water, and I will fill you with water welling up to eternal life.” Then that wise woman ran back to the city, and she said to the people at once, “Come and see Christ the Lord, the Savior of our souls!” [SD]

Beside Jacob’s well sat Jesus, where He found the Samaritan woman; and He asked her for water, He being the One who covers the earth with clouds. How amazing! He who rides on the Cherubim conversed with a promiscuous woman. He who suspended the earth in the waters was asking for water. He who pours out fountains and pools was requesting a drink of water. He truly wanted to get her back, since she had been caught by the hostile enemy; He wanted to give her a drink of the water of life, since she was dreadfully aflame in her offenses, as the only compassionate Lord who loves humanity. By you, O Lady, the Prophet David became an ancestor of God. Verse 1: Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from before His face.

Today a sacred Pascha has been revealed to us; a Pascha new and holy, a Pascha mystical, a Pascha all-venerable, Pascha, the Redeemer Christ himself; a Pascha that is blameless, a Pascha that is great, a Pascha of believers, a Pascha that has opened for us the gates of Paradise, a Pascha that sanctifies believers all. Verse 2: As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish, as wax melts before the fire.

So go back and proclaim it to His Disciples.” [SD]

Verse 4: This is the day the Lord made; let us greatly rejoice and be glad therein.
