The Angel who had come to the sepulcher said to the Myrrh-bearing women, “Ointments are appropriate for mortal men; but Christ is indeed a stranger to decay. You worked salvation in the midst of the earth, O Christ our God. You stretched out your immaculate hands on the Cross, and gathered all the nations, who cry to You: “Lord, glory to You!” [SD]

Ἀναστὰς ἐκ τοῦ μνήματος, καὶ τὰ δεσμὰ διαῤῥήξας τοῦ ᾍδου, ἔλυσας τὸ κατάκριμα, τοῦ θανάτου Κύριε, πάντας ἐκ τῶν παγίδων τοῦ ἐχθροῦ ῥυσάμενος, ἐμφανίσας σεαυτὸν τοῖς, Ἀποστόλοις σου, ἐξαπέστειλας αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ τὸ κήρυγμα, καὶ διʼ αὐτῶν τὴν εἰρήνην παρέσχες τῇ οἰκουμένῃ, μόνε πολυέλεε. Ἀθλοφόροι Κυρίου, μακαρία ἡ γῆ ἡ πιανθεῖσα τοῖς αἵμασιν ὑμῶν, καὶ ἅγιαι αἱ σκηναί, αἱ δεξάμεναι τὰ σώματα ὑμῶν· ἐν σταδίῳ γὰρ τὸν ἐχθρὸν ἐθριαμβεύσατε, καὶ Χριστὸν μετὰ παῤῥησίας ἐκηρύξατε, αὐτὸν ὡς ἀγαθὸν ἱκετεύσατε, σωθῆναι δεόμεθα τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν. Παρεστῶσα τῷ Σταυρῷ σου ἡ ἀσπόρως τεκοῦσά σε, καὶ μὴ φέρουσα ὁρᾷν ἀδίκως πάσχοντα, ὠλοφύρετο, κλαυθμῷ, καὶ ἀνεβόα σοι· Πῶς πάσχεις ὁ τῇ φύσει ἀπαθής, γλυκύτατε Υἱὲ; ὑμνῶ σου τὴν ἄκραν ἀγαθότητα.	When Your Mother, who gave birth to You without seed, was standing near Your Cross, she could not bear to watch You suffer unjustly. She lamented and wept and cried out to You, “O sweetest Son of mine, how do You suffer, since You are by nature impassible? I extol Your extreme goodness.” [SD]

Τὸ Χαῖρε ταῖς Μυροφόροις φθεγξάμενος, τὸν θρῆνον τῆς προμήτορος Εὔας κατέπαυσας, τῇ Ἀναστάσει σου, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, τοῖς Ἀποστόλοις δὲ τοῖς σοῖς κηρύττειν ἐπέταξας, ὁ Σωτὴρ ἐξανέστη τοῦ μνήματος.	In saying Rejoice to the myrrh-bearers, You allayed the lament of the first mother Eve, at Your Resurrection, O Christ our God. And You ordered Your Apostles to proclaim, * “The Savior has risen from the sepulcher.” [SD]

Τῇ ΚΒʹ τοῦ αὐτοῦ μηνὸς μνήμη τοῦ Ἁγίου Μάρτυρος Βασιλίσκου.	On May 22 we commemorate the holy Martyr Basiliskos, nephew of Saint Theodore the Tyro.
Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῆς Ἁγίας καὶ Οἰκομενικῆς Δευτέρας Συνόδου, τῆς συγκροτηθείσης ἐν ἔτει τπαʹ (381), τῆς καθελούσης τὸν Μακεδόνιον, λέγοντα μὴ εἶναι Θεὸν τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον.	On this day we also commemorate the holy Second Ecumenical Synod, which convened in the year 381, and which deposed Macedonius who said that the Holy Spirit was not God.
Ὁ Ἅγιος Μάρτυς Μάρκελλος, μόλυβδον κοχλάζοντα ποτισθείς, τελειοῦται.	The holy Martyr Marcellus died when he was made to swallow molten lead.
Ὁ Ἅγιος Μάρτυς Κόδρος, ὑπὸ ἵππων συρόμενος, τελειοῦται.	The holy Martyr Codrus died when he was dragged by horses.
Ὁ Ἅγιος Ἰωάννης ὁ Βλαδίμηρος, ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ θαυματουργός, ξίφει τελειοῦται.	Saint John Vladimir, the king and wonder-worker, died by the sword.
Ὁ Ἅγιος νέος Ἱερομάρτυρυς Ζαχαρίας, ὁ Προυσαεύς, ἀγχόνῃ τελειοῦται.	The new holy Hieromartyr Zacharias of Prusa died by hanging.

	Ἔφριξε πᾶσα ἀκοή.
Ἔφριξε πᾶσα ἀκοή, τὴν ἀπόῤῥητον Θεοῦ συγκατάβασιν, ὅπως ὁ Ὕψιστος, ἑκὼν κατῆλθεν μέχρι καὶ σώματος, παρθενικῆς ἀπὸ γαστρός, γενόμενος ἄνθρωπος· διὸ τὴν ἄχραντον, Θεοτόκον οἱ πιστοὶ μεγαλύνομεν.	All hearers shuddered when they heard * the unheard-of condescension of God to us: * that voluntarily * the Most High came down, and even bodily, * and from a Virgin’s womb was born, * becoming a man from her. * Hence, the immaculate * Theotokos we believers now magnify. Νεανίσκοι καὶ παρθένοι, πρεσβύτεροι μετὰ νεωτέρων· αἰνεσάτωσαν τὸ ὄνομα Κυρίου, ὅτι ὑψώθη τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ μόνου.	Young men and maidens, elders with younger, let them praise the Lord’s name, for His name alone is exalted.

Ἄσατε τῷ Κυρίῳ ᾆσμα καινόν, ἡ αἴνεσις αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ ὁσίων.	Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of His holy ones.
Εὐφρανθήτω Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ τῷ ποιήσαντι αὐτόν, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Σιὼν ἀγαλλιάσθωσαν ἐπὶ τῷ βασιλεῖ αὐτῶν.	Let Israel be glad in Him who made him, and let the children of Zion greatly rejoice in their King.
Αἰνεσάτωσαν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐν χορῷ, ἐν τυμπάνῳ καὶ ψαλτηρίῳ ψαλάτωσαν αὐτῷ.	Let them praise His name with dance; with tambourine and harp let them sing to Him.
Ὅτι εὐδοκεῖ Κύριος ἐν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὑψώσει πραεῖς ἐν σωτηρίᾳ.	For the Lord is pleased with His people, and He shall exalt the gentle with salvation.
Καυχήσονται ὅσιοι ἐν δόξῃ καὶ ἀγαλλιάσονται ἐπὶ τῶν κοιτῶν αὐτῶν.	The holy ones shall boast in glory, and they shall greatly rejoice on their beds.
Αἱ ὑψώσεις τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν, καὶ ῥομφαῖαι δίστομοι ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν.	The high praise of God shall be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand.
Τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἐκδίκησιν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, ἐλεγμοὺς ἐν τοῖς λαοῖς.	To deal retribution to the nations, reproving among the peoples.
Τοῦ δῆσαι τοὺς βασιλεῖς αὐτῶν ἐν πέδαις καὶ τοὺς ἐνδόξους αὐτῶν ἐν χειροπέδαις σιδηραῖς.	To shackle their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron.
Τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς κρῖμα ἔγγραπτον· δόξα αὕτη ἔσται πᾶσι τοῖς ὁσίοις αὐτοῦ.	To fulfill among them the written judgment: this glory have all His holy ones.
