For the Cross.

Mode 2.

You worked salvation in the midst of the earth, O Christ our God. You stretched out your immaculate hands on the Cross, and gathered all the nations, who cry to You: “Lord, glory to You!” [SD]

Verse: The Lord reigns; He clothed Himself with majesty; the Lord clothed and girded Himself with power. [SAAS]

When You rose from the sepulcher and broke the bonds of Hades, You repealed the sentence of death, O Lord, and delivered all from the snares of the enemy. And when You showed yourself to Your Apostles, You sent them out to preach, and through them You granted peace to the whole world, O only very merciful One. [SD]

From the Menaion.

On May 22 we commemorate the holy Martyr Basiliskos, nephew of Saint Theodore the Tyro.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Second Ecumenical Synod, which convened in the year 381, and which deposed Macedonius who said that the Holy Spirit was not God.

The holy Martyr Marcellus died when he was made to swallow molten lead.

The holy Martyr Codrus died when he was dragged by horses.

Saint John Vladimir, the king and wonder-worker, died by the sword.

The new holy Hieromartyr Zacharias of Prusa died by hanging.

By their holy intercessions, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.

Grieving did the Myrrh-bearers of Christ, * those women disciples, say, “Is the Redeemer among the dead? * Is the greatest Sun of righteousness still underground, * or has He risen, as He said?” As they were thus weeping, * from the tomb the Angel shared with them the godly joy, * crying out, “Indeed Christ is risen! * Go, announce to all the good tidings * of His resurrection from the sepulcher.” [SD]
