You planted the dogmas of Orthodoxy, * and you cut down the briars of heresy, * and thus you increased the seed of Faith, * with the rain of the Spirit, O holy one. * And therefore we hymn your memorial. [SD]

Let us believers extol today the most festive memorial of Athanasios. He brought down the errant Arius, Eunomius and Sabellius, by means of true dogmas; and he delivered them to burn in everlasting fire, for they had wrongly blasphemed against the Savior’s incarnation, which all the Prophets had announced. On May 7 we commemorate the Appearance of the Sign of the Precious Cross in the sky, during the reign of the Emperor Constantius, son of Saint Constantine the Great, when Cyril was Archbishop of Jerusalem.

On this day we also commemorate the holy Martyr Akakios.

On this day we also commemorate the contest of the holy Martyr Quadratus and those with him.

On this day we also commemorate our devout Father John Psychaites, the Confessor.

On this day we also commemorate the contest of the holy Martyr Maximus.

On this day we commemorate the recovery of the holy relics of our Father among the Saints Athanasius the Great, Patriarch of Alexandria.

On Tuesday of Bright and Renewal Week, we celebrate the memory of the holy, glorious, newly-appearing and wonder-working devout monastic Martyrs, Raphael and Nicholas, and the holy virgin Martyr Irene, and the others who along with them endured martyrdom, on April 9, 1463, which that year was Bright Tuesday, in the ancient Monastery of Karyes, which is located near Thermi on the Greek island of Lesbos. These saints were miraculously revealed to us in the year 1959.

The myrrh-bearing women at dawn very early, standing outside the tomb of the Giver-of-Life, found an Angel who was seated upon the stone. And the Angel addressed them, and this is what he said, “Why do you seek among the dead the One who is alive? Why do you grieve as though corruptible the Incorrupt? So go back and proclaim it to His Disciples.” [SD]

Pascha of delight! Pascha, the Lord’s Pascha! A Pascha all venerable has risen for us. Pascha! With joy let us embrace one another. Pascha, the ransom from sorrow! Today from the sepulcher Christ emerged resplendently as from a bridal chamber, and the women He filled with joy, saying, “Proclaim this to the Apostles.” [SD]

Mode 3.

With sacred hymns let us extol that great glory of priests, Athanasius, the invincible hero. By the power of the Spirit, he cut down the ranks of the heresies, and he raised the trophies of Orthodoxy throughout the world. He correctly expounded on the mystery of the Trinity, speaking of three because of the attributes of each Person, and then speaking of one because of the unconfused identity of essence. He theologized like the cherubim, and he intercedes for our souls. [SD]
