Αὐτεξουσίως ἐξεδύθην, τῇ πρώτῃ μου παραβάσει, τῶν ἀρετῶν τὴν εὐπρέπειαν, ἠμφιασάμην δὲ ταύτην αὖθις, τῇ πρός με συγκαταβάσει σου Λόγε Θεοῦ· οὐ παρεῖδες γάρ με τὸν ἐν δεινοῖς παθήμασι καταστιχθέντα, καὶ λῃστρικῶς ὁδοπατηθέντα, ἀλλὰ τῇ παναλκεῖ σου δυναστείᾳ περιποιησάμενός με, ἀντιλήψεως ἠξίωσας Πολυέλεε.	With my first transgression, of my own free will, I was stripped of the majesty of the virtues; but I have put it on again, because of Your condescension to me, O Logos of God. For You did not look away from me when I lay covered in terrible wounds, beaten by robbers on the road; but rather You took care of me with Your almighty power, and You granted me assistance, O very merciful Lord. Γενηθήτω τὰ ὦτά σου προσέχοντα εἰς τὴν φωνὴν τῆς δεήσεώς μου.	Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. [SAAS]
Ἡλούμενος Κύριε Σταυρῷ, Ἀδὰμ τὸ χειρόγραφον, τῇ θείᾳ λόγχῃ διέῤῥηξας· διὸ διάῤῥηξον, τοὺς δεσμούς μου Λόγε, ὅπως σοι αἰνέσεως, θυσίαν θύσω πίστει γηθόμενος, καιρὸν εὐπρόσδεκτον, τῆς νηστείας νῦν εὐράμενος ὃν εἰς πάντων, σωτηρίαν ἔδειξας.	O Lord, You were nailed on to the Cross * and were pierced, and thus by means of that divine spear tore up the bond on Adam. Therefore now * tear apart the shackles * that I wear, O Word of God, * that I in faith may joyfully offer You a sacrifice of praise, * having found Lent an acceptable * time, which You gave * to be for the salvation of all. Ἐὰν ἀνομίας παρατηρήσῃς, Κύριε Κύριε, τίς ὑποστήσεται; ὅτι παρὰ σοὶ ὁ ἱλασμός ἐστιν.	If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]
Νηστείας λαμπρότητι ποτέ, Μωϋσῆς λαμπόμενος, Θεοῦ τὴν δόξαν τεθέαται, τοῦτον ζηλώσασα, ταπεινὴ ψυχή μου, τὸν Σταυρῷ τανύσαντα, παλάμας διὰ σὲ ἀγαθότητι, ἔργοις θεράπευσον, ἐγκρατείας καὶ δεήσεως, ὅπως τύχῃς, θείας ἀπολαύσεως. You brought down the strongholds of impiety with your patience, prize-winner of the Lord, and received victory from heaven, wise one. Ὅτι παρὰ τῷ Κυρίῳ τὸ ἔλεος καὶ πολλὴ παρʼ αὐτῷ λύτρωσις, καὶ αὐτὸς λυτρώσεται τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ πασῶν τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτοῦ.	For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

We faithfully honor your sacred struggles and athletic toils, which you accomplished for Christ who suffered the Cross, thrice-blessed Paphnutios, and with exceeding gladness we celebrate your holy memory in song. Ὅτι ἐκραταιώθη τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς, καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ Κυρίου μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.	For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]
Ἡ τῶν λειψάνων σου θήκη, Ἱερομάρτυς Χριστοῦ, ὡς ποταμὸς ἐκβλύζει, τῶν ἰάσεων ῥεῖθρα, καὶ πάντων καταρδεύει τῶν εὐσεβῶν, τὰς καρδίας Παφνούτιε, τῶν προσφοιτώντων ἑκάστοτε ἐν αὐτῇ, καὶ ὑμνούντων τοὺς ἀγῶνάς σου.	The case of your relics pours out waters of healings like a river, O hieromartyr of Christ, and irrigates the hearts of the all the pious who daily come to it and sing the praises of your struggles, O Paphnutios. Ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ θεωροῦσα ἡ ἀπειρόγαμος, καὶ ἄμωμος Παρθένος, ὃν Δεσπότην καὶ Κτίστην, καὶ Πλάστην τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἐβόα πικρῶς, θρηνῳδοῦσα καὶ στένουσα· Τί τοῦτο τέκνον γλυκύτατον, ὃ ὁρῶ; ἀνυμνῶ σου τὸ μακρόθυμον.	Beholding the Lord and Creator and Fashioner of humanity on the Cross, the unwedded blameless virgin bitterly cried out lamenting and sighing: What is this I see, sweetest child? I hymn your long-suffering. [VPA]

Therefore, I will go down now and see whether or not they are carrying out the outcry coming to Me concerning them.” Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained before the Lord. So Abraham drew near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the ungodly? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked , that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” Then the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” So Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: But suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” He replied, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.” Again he spoke to Him and said, “But suppose there should be forty found there?” So He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of forty.” Then he said, “Let not the Lord be offended, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I would not destroy it if I should find thirty there.” Again he said, “Since I have permission to speak to the Lord, suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of twenty.” Then he said, “Let not the Lord be offended, and I will speak but once more, suppose ten should be found there?” So He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of the ten.” So the Lord went His way as soon as He finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place. Ὁ Ἱερεύς, κρατῶν ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ λαμπάδα ἀνημμένην καὶ θυμιατήριον ἐξηρτημένον, ἵσταται ἐνώπιον τῆς ἁγίας Τραπέζης καὶ ποιεῖ σχῆμα σταυροῦ λέγων·	The Priest holds a lit candle in his right hand with the censer hanging below it, stands before the holy Table, gestures crosswise and says:

Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τὸν λαὸν καὶ εὐλογῶν αὐτὸν σταυροειδῶς διὰ τῆς λαμπάδος λέγει·	Then he turns to face the people, blesses them crosswise with the candle, and says:
Φῶς Χριστοῦ φαίνει πᾶσι.	The light of Christ shines on all.
Εἶτα δὲ παραδίδωσι τήν τε λαμπάδα καὶ τὸ θυμιατήριον τῷ ὑπηρετοῦντι.	Then he hands the candle and the censer to the acolyte.

Συνετὸς ἐν πράγμασιν εὑρετὴς ἀγαθῶν, πεποιθὼς δὲ ἐπὶ τῷ Κυρίῳ μακαριστός. Τοὺς σοφοὺς καὶ συνετούς, φαύλους καλοῦσιν, οἱ δὲ γλυκεῖς ἐν λόγῳ, πλείονα ἀκούσονται. Πηγὴ ζωῆς ἔννοια τοῖς κεκτημένοις, παιδεία δὲ ἀφρόνων κακή. Καρδία σοφοῦ νοήσει τὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἰδίου στόματος, ἐπὶ δὲ χείλεσι φορέσει ἐπιγνωμοσύνην. Κηρία μέλιτος λόγοι καλοί, γλύκασμα δὲ αὐτοῦ ἴασις ψυχῆς. Εἰσὶν ὁδοί, δοκοῦσαι ὀρθαὶ εἶναι ἀνδρί, τὰ μέντοι τελευταῖα αὐτῶν βλέπει εἰς πυθμένα ᾍδου. Ἀνὴρ ἐν πόνοις πονεῖ ἑαυτῷ, καὶ ἐκβιάζεται τὴν ἀπώλειαν ἑαυτοῦ. Ὁ μέντοι σκολιὸς ἐπὶ τῷ ἑαυτοῦ στόματι φορεῖ τὴν ἀπώλειαν. Ἀνὴρ ἄφρων ὀρύσσει ἑαυτῷ κακά, ἐπὶ δὲ τῶν ἑαυτοῦ χειλέων θησαυρίζει πῦρ. Ἀνὴρ σκολιὸς διαπέμπεται κακά, καὶ λαμπτῆρα δόλου πυρσεύει κακοῖς, καὶ διαχωρίζει φίλους. Ἀνὴρ παράνομος ἀποπειρᾶται φίλων, καὶ ἀπάγει αὐτούς εἰς ὁδοὺς οὐκ ἀγαθάς, στηρίζων δὲ ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ, λογίζεται διεστραμμένα, ἐπιδάκνων δὲ τοῖς χείλεσιν αὐτοῦ, ὁρίζει πάντα τὰ κακά, οὗτος κάμινός ἐστι κακίας. Στέφανος καυχήσεως γῆρας, ἐν δὲ ὁδοῖς δικαιοσύνης εὑρίσκεται. Κρείσσων ἀνὴρ μακρόθυμος, ἰσχυροῦ. Ὁ δὲ κρατῶν ὀργῆς, κρείσσων τοῦ καταλαμβανομένου πόλιν. Εἰς κόλπους ἐπέρχεται πάντα τοῖς ἀδίκοις, παρὰ δὲ Κυρίου πάντα τὰ δίκαια. Κρείσσων ψωμὸς μεθʹ ἡδονῆς ἐν εἰρήνῃ ἢ οἶκος πλήρης πολλῶν ἀγαθῶν, καὶ ἀδίκων θυμάτων μετὰ μάχης. Οἰκέτης νοήμων κρατήσει δεσποτῶν ἀφρόνων, ἐν δὲ ἀδελφοῖς διελεῖται μέρη. Ὥσπερ δοκιμάζεται ἐν καμίνῳ ἄργυρος καὶ χρυσός, οὕτως ἐκλεκταὶ καρδίαι παρὰ Κυρίῳ. Κακὸς ὑπακούει γλώσσης παρανόμων, δίκαιος δὲ οὐ προσέχει χείλεσι ψευδέσιν. Ὁ καταγελῶν πτωχοῦ, παροξύνει τὸν ποιήσαντα αὐτόν. Ὁ δὲ ἐπιχαίρων ἀπολλυμένῳ, οὐκ ἀθωωθήσεται. Ὁ δὲ ἐπισπλαγχνιζόμενος ἐλεηθήσεται. Στέφανος γερόντων, τέκνα τέκνων, καύχημα δὲ τέκνων, πατέρες αὐτῶν. Τοῦ πιστοῦ ὅλος ὁ κόσμος τῶν χρημάτων, τοῦ δὲ ἀπίστου οὐδὲ ὀβολός. Οὐχ ἁρμόσει ἄφρονι πιστά, οὐδὲ δικαίῳ χείλη ψευδῆ. Μισθὸς χαρίτων, ἡ παιδεία τοῖς χρωμένοις, οὗ δʹ ἂν ἐπιστρέψῃ, εὐοδωθήσεται. Ὃς κρύπτει ἀδικήματα, ζητεῖ φιλίαν· ὃς δὲ μισεῖ κρύπτειν, διΐστησι φίλους καὶ οἰκείους. Συντρίβει ἀπειλὴ καρδίαν φρονίμου, ἄφρων δὲ μαστιγωθείς, οὐκ αἰσθάνεται. Ἀντιλογίας ἐγείρει πᾶς κακός. Ὁ δὲ Κύριος ἄγγελον ἀνελεήμονα ἐκπέμψει αὐτῷ. Ἐμπεσεῖται μέριμνα ἀνδρὶ νοήμονι, οἱ δὲ ἄφρονες διαλογιοῦνται κακά. Ὃς ἀποδίδωσι κακὰ ἀντὶ ἀγαθῶν, οὐ κινηθήσεται κακὰ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ. Ἐξουσίαν δίδωσι λόγοις ἀρχὴ δικαιοσύνης, προηγεῖται δὲ τῆς ἐνδείας στάσις καὶ μάχη. Ὃς δίκαιον κρίνει τὸν ἄδικον, ἄδικον δὲ τὸν δίκαιον, ἀκάθαρτος καὶ βδελυκτὸς παρὰ Θεῷ. Ἵνα τί ὑπῆρξε χρήματα ἄφρονι; κτήσασθαι γὰρ σοφίαν ἀκάρδιος οὐ δυνήσεται. Ὃς ὑψηλὸν ποιεῖ τὸν ἑαυτοῦ οἶκον, ζητεῖ συντριβήν. Ὁ δὲ σκολιάζων τοῦ μαθεῖν, ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς κακά. Εἰς πάντα καιρὸν φίλος ὑπαρχέτω σοι, ἀδελφοὶ δὲ ἐν ἀνάγκαις χρήσιμοι ἔστωσαν.	He who receives instruction shall be in good things, and he who heeds rebukes shall become wise; he who guards his own ways shall keep his own soul, and he who loves his life shall use his mouth sparingly. Arrogance goes before destruction and folly before a fall. A gentle mind with humility is better than he who divides spoils with the arrogant. A man wise in his deeds is a discoverer of good things, but he who trusts in God is the most blessed. Men call the wise and understanding worthless, but those pleasing in speech will increase in understanding. Understanding is a fountain of life to those who possess it, but the instruction of those without discernment is evil. The heart of a wise man shall understand the things from his own mouth, and he shall carry knowledge upon his lips. Good words are a honeycomb, and their sweetness is a healing of the soul. There are ways that seem right to a man; however, their ends look to the depths of Hades. A man labors diligently for himself and expels destruction from himself; however, a perverse man carries destruction on his lips. A man without discernment digs up evil things for himself and stores up fire on his own lips. A perverse man spreads evil things, and a torch of deceit kindles evils and separates friends. A lawless man makes a trial of friends and leads them in ways not good. A man sets his eyes to calculate perverse things and determines every evil thing with his lips; this man is a furnace of wickedness. Old age is a crown of dignity, but it is found in the ways of righteousness. A patient man is better than a strong man, and he who controls his temper is better than he who captures a city. All evil things come into the bosoms of the unrighteous, but all righteous things come from the Lord. Better is a morsel with enjoyment in peace than a house full of many good things and unrighteous sacrifices with quarreling. A servant with discernment shall rule over masters without discernment, and will divide portions among brethren. As silver and gold are tested in a furnace, so are chosen hearts before the Lord. An evil man heeds the tongue of the lawless, but a righteous man pays no attention to false lips. He who laughs at the poor provokes the One who made him, and he who rejoices in destruction will not be unpunished; but he who has compassion will be shown mercy. The crown of old men is children of children, and the boasting of children is their fathers. The entire world of goods belongs to the faithful, but to the faithless, not even a penny. Faithful lips will not adapt to a man without discernment, nor lying lips to a righteous man. Instruction awards benefits to those using it, and wherever it turns, it prospers them. He who hides wrongdoings seeks love, but he who hates to cover them will separate friends and close relatives. A threat breaks the heart of a man with discernment, but a man without discernment, though flogged, has no perception. Every evil man stirs up controversy, but the Lord will send him a merciless messenger. Care will befall a thoughtful man, but men without discernment devise evil things. He who repays evil for good, evil will not be removed from his house. The foundation of righteousness gives authority to words, but discord and quarreling precede poverty. He who judges the unrighteous as righteous, and the righteous as unrighteous, he is unclean and abominable before God. Why do goods belong to a man without discernment? For a heartless man is unable to gain wisdom. He who makes his own house lofty seeks destruction, and the one who turns away from learning will fall into evils.
