THE DIVINE LITURGY OF PRESANCTIFIED GIFTS

On Friday Evening of the Fourth Week 2024

From the Triodion.

Sticheron Idiomelon. Grave Mode.

Bring my soul out of prison to give thanks to Your name, O Lord. [SAAS]

I have subjugated my soul’s honor to the sinful passions. I have become like a beast, and I am unable to look up at You, O Most High. But with my head hanging low, O Christ, like the Publican I pray to You and cry out: O God, be merciful to me, and save me. [SD]

The righteous shall wait for me, until You reward me. [SAAS]

I have subjugated my soul’s honor to the sinful passions. I have become like a beast, and I am unable to look up at You, O Most High. But with my head hanging low, O Christ, like the Publican I pray to You and cry out: O God, be merciful to me, and save me. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Mode 3.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. [SAAS]

The power of Your martyr Saints is truly great, O Christ. * They drive out evil spirits * while lying in their monuments. * They contended for the sake of true religion, * and therefore, by their faith in the Holy Trinity, * destroyed the foe’s dominion. [SD]

Mode 3.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. [SAAS]

The Prophets and Apostles of Christ and martyr Saints * taught the world to worship * the consubstantial Trinity; * and the nations that had been in error they enlightened, * and made the sons of men * to have fellowship with the Angels. [SD]

Mode 3.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

Established in the faith, O Lord, with hope’s assurance, and in soul united in the love for Your Cross, Your martyr Saints destroyed the adversary’s tyranny, and they received the crowns. And now together with bodiless hosts they intercede on behalf of our souls. [SD]

Mode 3. Automelon.

Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

The power of Your holy Cross, O Lord, is truly great. * It stood in one location * and throughout the world is active, * and unlettered fishermen it rendered wise Apostles, * and made the heathen Martyrs * that they might intercede * with You, O God, to save our souls. [SD]

Glory. For the Dead.

Mode 3.

Vanity is everything human, which after death exists no more. Wealth does not remain, glory does not go with us; for when death arrives, all these disappear. Therefore let us cry to Christ the immortal King, “Grant rest to those departed from us, there where glad are all who have their dwelling in You.” [SD]

The First Theotokion of the Mode.

How can we not marvel that you became the mother of the Son of God the Father, O all-honorable Virgin! You were wholly blameless, and you experienced no union with a man, and you gave birth to Him, unfathered in the flesh, who unmothered was begotten of the Father before all ages. He did not undergo any change or mixing or division, but He preserved intact the distinctive property of each nature. O Lady, we implore you, virgin Mother, to entreat Him for the salvation of the souls of all who profess the Orthodox belief that you are Theotokos. [GOASD]

Gladsome light of holy glory of the holy, blessed, heavenly, immortal Father, O Jesus Christ: arriving at the hour of sunset and having seen the evening light, we praise the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God. Gn 12:1-7

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Get out of your country, from your kindred and from your father’s house, to a land I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you; and in you all the tribes of the earth shall be blessed.” Then Abram departed as the Lord said to him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. So Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son and all their possessions and every soul they acquired in Haran, and they departed for the land of Canaan. Thus they came to the land of Canaan. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your seed I will give this land.” And there Abram built an altar to the Lord, who appeared to him. [SAAS]

Pr 14:15-27

A simple man believes in every word, but an astute man comes to repentance. A wise man fears and turns away from evil, but a man without discernment persuades himself to mingle with a lawless man. A quick-tempered man acts with recklessness, but a man with discernment bears many things. Men without discernment will share in evil, but the astute will take hold of perception. Evil men will slip and fall in the presence of good men, and the ungodly shall serve at the gate of the righteous. Friends will hate poor friends, but the friends of the rich are many. He who dishonors the poor sins, but he who has mercy on the poor is very blessed. Deceivers devise evil things, but good men devise mercy and truth. Devisers of evil things do not understand mercy and faithfulness, but mercies and faithfulness are with devisers of good things. To everyone who is careful there is an abundance, but he who is pleasure-taking and slothful shall be in want. The crown of the wise is astuteness, but the pastime of the undiscerning is evil. A faithful witness will rescue a soul from evil men, but a deceitful man kindles lies. In the fear of the Lord there is hope of strength, and to His children there remains support. [SAAS]

PRIEST

Peace be with you.
