Bring my soul out of prison to give thanks to Your name, O Lord. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who is benevolent. [SD]

The righteous shall wait for me, until You reward me. [SAAS]

Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. O Lord, in the abundance of your mercy, visit my soul, and remove the heavy burden of my iniquities, as the only One who is benevolent. [SD]

Mode 1.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. [SAAS]

By the intercessions of all Your Saints and the Theotokos, grant us Your peace and have mercy on us, O only compassionate Lord. [SD]

Mode 1.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. [SAAS]

Saints, your confession of faith in the arena disconcerted the power of the demons, and it freed the people from delusion. And so you cried aloud as you were beheaded: Let the sacrifice of our souls be acceptable before You, O benevolent Master; for, in longing for You, we have despised this temporal life. [SD]

Mode 1.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

Oh, what an excellent transaction you made, O Saints! For you invested blood and inherited the heavens. Temporarily tested, you rejoice eternally. Good indeed was your enterprise! For by relinquishing things corruptible, you received in return things that perish not. And now exulting with the Angels you endlessly extol the consubstantial Trinity. [SD]

Mode 1. Automelon.

Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

O Martyrs, extolled in all the world, * you were not concealed by earth, * but rather heaven admitted you. The gates of Paradise * unto you were opened. * Having gone within, you now * enjoy the tree of life, and you intercede with Christ on our behalf, * supplicating that surpassing peace * and great mercy * be upon our souls bestowed. Mode pl. 4. What a paradoxal.

From the morning watch until night; from the morning watch until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. [SAAS]

Holy father John, as one devout, * the exaltations of God * were at all times the property * of your throat in very truth, * as you studied and practiced well * the God-inspired sayings, as one all wise. * You were enriched in your soul by the divine * grace welling up from them. * And becoming blessed you fully destroyed * the malicious purposes * of all impious men. [SD]

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

Holy father John, most glorious, * you shed a well-spring of tears, * and your soul thus was purified; * you propitiated God * by your standing in prayer all night. * Thus given wings, you ascended to His love * and to His beauty, all blessed as you are; * which now you worthily * are enjoying endlessly as you rejoice * with your fellow athlete-monks, * O godly-minded Saint. [SD]

For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]

Holy father John, as one devout, * when you had lifted your mind * unto God on the wings of faith * you despised the turbulence * of the world and its transience. * And on your shoulders you took up your own Cross * and followed after the Lord who sees all things. * Then the unruly flesh * you subordinated to your pious thought, * through ascetic exercise, * by the divine Spirit’s might.

Which of life’s pleasures remains free of sorrow? Which earthly glory is permanent? All this is fainter than a shadow, all more illusory than a dream. In a single moment, death succeeds them all. O Christ, grant rest to those whom You have taken, in the light of Your face and in the sweetness of Your handsomeness, O benevolent Lord. [SD]

The First Theotokion of the Mode.

Let us extol the Virgin Mary, the glory of the universe. She had human parents and became the mother of the Master. She is the gateway to heaven, the song of the bodiless hosts, and the jewel of the faithful. For she became like heaven, a temple of the Godhead. She broke down the dividing wall of hostility and introduced the One who is our peace, and she opened the kingdom. Now as we hold on to her, the anchor of the Faith, we have as our champion the Lord who was born from her. So take courage; take courage, O people of God. For He himself, as the Almighty One, will fight the enemies. [GOASD]

Gladsome light of holy glory of the holy, blessed, heavenly, immortal Father, O Jesus Christ: arriving at the hour of sunset and having seen the evening light, we praise the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God. It is worthy for You to be praised at all times with happy voices, O Son of God and Giver of life; * and therefore the world glorifies You.

Γεν Εʹ, 32 - Ϛʹ, 8

Gn 5:32, 6:1-8

And Noah was five hundred years old, and he begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Now it came to pass that men began to exist in great numbers on the earth, and daughters were born to them. So when the sons of God saw the daughters of men were beautiful, they took wives for themselves of all they chose. Then the Lord God said, “My Spirit shall not remain with these people forever, for they are flesh. So their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Now there were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men of old, men of renown. Then the Lord God saw man’s wickedness, that it was great in the earth, and every intent of the thoughts within his heart was only evil continually. So God was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and He thought this over. Then God said, “I will blot out man whom I created from the face of the earth, from man to cattle, and from the creeping things to the birds of heaven, for I am grieved I made them.” But Noah found grace in the presence of the Lord God. Pr 6:24-35, 7:1-2

My son, guard the laws of your father, and do not depart from the rules of your mother. But fasten them to your soul continually and wear them as a collar upon your neck. When you walk about, bring along this commandment and let it be with you; and as you sleep, let it guard you, that when you arise, it may speak to you. For a commandment of law is a lamp and a light, and the way of life is reproof and instruction, that you may keep yourself from a married woman and from the slanderous tongue of a strange woman. Do not let the desire of beauty conquer you; neither be caught by her eyes, nor captivated by her eyelids; for the value of a prostitute is only one loaf, and such a woman hunts for the precious souls of men. Shall anyone bind fire to his bosom and his garments not burn? Or will anyone walk about on coals of fire and not burn his feet? Likewise is the one who goes in to a married woman; he shall not be guiltless, nor any who touch her. It is not surprising if anyone who steals is caught, for he steals that he may fill his hungry soul; but if he is caught, he will repay sevenfold, and by giving all his goods, he shall deliver himself. But the adulterer through his lack of discernment obtains the destruction of his soul; he bears both pain and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away forever. For the anger of her husband is full of jealousy; he will not spare in the day of judgment; he will not take any ransom in exchange for his hatred, nor will he be reconciled by many gifts. My son, guard my words, and hide my commandments within yourself; my son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong, and fear none other but Him. [SAAS]
