The Forerunner’s head was guarded in water like treasure placed in a storehouse, having hidden the voice of the Logos like wheat covered up in the depth of the earth, and it came up bearing divine life as fruit. Let us all honor its finding, glorifying Christ who gave it grace to bring forth healings. [VPA]

Τὸ προσταχθέν.

The head of the Baptist was hidden in water as a pearl under the earth and being make bright like a lamp shining with the light of God, it shines in the whole world with the working of miracles, and the Forerunner, springing up as a most beautiful sunrise and again revealing the unsetting light to us, cries out: Behold, the Lamb of God. You habitually covered your honored and famous head in tattered garments of hair, O Forerunner, rejoicing as though they were garments of royal purple. [VPA]
