Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. O Lord, Your works shall be magnified greatly; You made all things in wisdom; the earth was filled with Your creation. There is this great and spacious sea: the creeping things are there without number; the living things are there, both small and great; there the ships pass through; there is this dragon You formed to play therein. Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips.

Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins.

Stichera for the Cross.

Mode 3. The power of Your holy Cross.

Μεγάλη τοῦ Σταυροῦ σου.

If You, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with You. [SAAS]

Creation has been sanctified, only forbearing Lord, * by Your all-precious blood that came out with holy water, * whereby the rivers of idolatry have all but dried up. * And from the fall Adam has been saved, O Word of God, * thanks to Your crucifixion. [GOASD]

Because of Your law, O Lord, I waited for You; my soul waited for Your word. My soul hopes in the Lord. [SAAS]

Transcending every honor, Lord, being benevolent, * for us You were insulted, * You tasted of the vinegar, * and You willingly endured the crucifixion, * so that, O Benefactor, * by Your own death You might * redeem all from corruption. [GOASD]

You are the cloud of the light never-setting, * O Maiden full of divine grace, * ever-blessed Virgin Mary. * Shine in me light of repentance, * I recklessly let the darkness of sin surround and oppress me. * and save me from the endless fire of hell * and from that unlighted darkness, by your prayers, * and grant me to experience the day that never ends, * as I turn to you for shelter, O immaculate one. Mode 4. To a brave one.

Ὡς γενναῖον ἐν Μάρτυσι.

For with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption; and He shall redeem Israel from all his transgressions. [SAAS]

You were equal in number to the Apostles, O Martyr Saints, * and you shared the same frame of mind and holy zeal. * You were not frightened by tyrants’ wrath and godless brutality, * rather you firmly proclaimed * Christ as Savior courageously. * For this you endured * mutilation and torture, O all wise men; but through hope you were already * enjoying future divine delights. [SD]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; praise Him, all you peoples. [SAAS]

By endurance you overcame * opposition from godless men, * also you contested in multifarious * methods of torture; hence worthily * you received the laurel crowns * from the life-producing hand; * now you glorious men enjoy an inheritance * indestructible in eternal dwellings, and together you are reigning * with Christ our Savior and Lord of all. For His mercy rules over us; and the truth of the Lord endures forever. [SAAS]

Let us honor those Martyrs twelve: * godly-minded St. Pamphilos, * Valens and Seleucus, divine Porphyrios, * and Jeremiah and Daniel and that marvelous Samuel, * and Isaiah and Sts. Paul * and Elias and Julian * and Theodoulos. * Let us praise and extol them with our various inspired hymns and poems, * for they were brave for the love of God. [SD]

When the Ewe who gave birth to You * saw You hanging upon the Cross -- * You the Lamb and Shepherd -- she cried aloud in grief, * and as a mother she said to You, * “Alas! dearest Son of mine! * How is it that You are hung * on the tree of the Cross, O Word * and forbearing Lord? * How is it that Your hands and feet were nailed to it by lawless men, O Master, * and that You shed Your all-holy blood?” [SD]

Guard them at all times, this evening and the coming night, from every enemy, from all demonic activity against them, from unprofitable reflections, and from wicked thoughts.

I bow down, O Christ, and venerate Your precious Cross, * the keeper of the world, and salvation of us sinners, * the great propitiation, the victory of pious kings, * and the boast of the Christian world. [SD]

Verse: I lift my eyes to You, who dwell in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the maidservant look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shall have compassion on us. [SAAS]

The tree of disobedience brought death into the world, * whereas the tree of the Cross * brought life and incorruption. * Therefore do we worship You the Lord who were crucified. * Let the light of Your countenance be signed on us. [SD]
