As a citizen of the desert and an angel incarnate * and a wonder-worker you shone forth, O Afxentios, our God-bearing father. * Since you received the spiritual gifts * by fasting and vigilance and prayer, * you can cure those who are ailing and heal the souls * of those who run to you with faith. * Glory to Him who gave His might to you; * glory to Him who placed a crown on you; * glory to Him who operates through you, providing cures to all. We have obtained your protection, O immaculate Lady, and by your earnest entreaties we are saved from calamities. In everything we are guarded by the Cross of your Son. We all dutifully magnify you piously. [SD]

For the Cross.

Mode 3.

The Cross was set up on the earth, and it touched the heavens; not that the tree reached that height, but that You who were on it fill all things. Glory to You, O Lord. [SD]

Verse: Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at the footstool of His feet; for He is holy.

O Lamb of God, you were lifted up onto a cross, made of cypress, pine and cedar, in order to save us, who in faith reverence Your voluntary crucifixion. O Christ our God, glory to You! [SD]

We have obtained the Cross of your Son, O Theotokos, as a rod of power. By it we subdue the insolence of the enemies. And with love we magnify you unceasingly. [SD]

On behalf of the human race, You were slapped and yet were not enraged. Free our life of corruption, O Lord, and save us. [GOASD]

Τὴν ὡραιότητα.

The regiments of Angels were amazed by the immensity of Your authority and the voluntary nature of Your crucifixion, as they watched how You, who are invisible, were being whipped in the flesh, wishing as You did to rescue human nature from corruption. Therefore they cried out to You, the Giver of Life, “Glory to Your compassion, O Christ!” [SD]

Τὴν ὡραιότητα.

Your ever-virgin, pure Mother, saw You, O Christ, * when You were crucified, and You were hanging dead * upon the Cross, and she cried out expressing her maternal grief, * “What is this ingratitude of these people who break the Law? * Why have they repaid You thus, for the many amazing gifts * and blessings, O my Son, that You gave them? * I extol Your divine condescension.” [GOASD]

For the Cross.

Mode 3. You were so beautiful.

Τὴν ὡραιότητα.

You who who transcend the whole created universe, * wishing to honor me who long ago sustained * the grave dishonor, have endured dishonorable death on the cross. * And You let your side be pierced * with a spear, for you wished to free * from utter destruction me, * whom You fashioned, O forbearing Lord. * I glorify Your goodness, O Savior, * and Your great compassion, O benevolent God. [GOASD]

Covered with the full armor of Christ, and wearing the shield of the Faith, as combatants you brought down the armies of the enemy. In the hope that life would follow, you enthusiastically endured every threat and torture from the tyrants. That is why you received the crowns, O valiant Martyrs of Christ. [SD]

Τὴν ὡραιότητα.

When Your immaculate and irreproachable * and ever-virgin pure, all-holy Mother watched * as You were crucified, O Lord, she saw You on the cross and wept. * Tearfully she cried aloud, “Woe is me! O my sweetest Son! * How could this unlawful crowd condemn You to be crucified, * for You are Lord of all and Creator! * I glorify Your goodness that has no end.” [GOASD]

O godly-minded Saint, in abstinence you found enjoyment, and you bridled the carnal urges, and you grew in your faith, and you blossomed like a tree in the middle of Paradise, O most sacred Father Auxentius. [SD]

Oikos.

Who can now worthily describe the struggles and labors you undertook on the earth in order to attain divine enjoyment? From your childhood, you followed the laws of the Lord, and you obeyed His commandments. In your exploits you seem to us like another Job. You were a sojourner in the world and a stranger to all the earth. You practiced fasting with faith, and you loved vigilance and chastity, O most sacred Father Auxentius. [SD]

On February 14 we commemorate our devout father Afxentios on the Mountain.

On this day we also commemorate our devout father Maron.

On this day we also commemorate our devout father Abraham.

On this day we also commemorate the contest of the holy hieromartyr Philemon, Bishop of Gaza.

The holy new martyr Nicholas from Ichthys, Corinth, who witnessed in Constantinople in the year 1554, died by the sword.

The holy devout martyr Damianos the New from Myrichovos, Agrapha, who witnessed in Larisa in the year 1568, died by hanging.

The holy new martyr George from Mytilene, who was called the Tailor, and who witnessed for the true faith in Constantinople in the year 1693, died by the sword.

By the intercessions of Your Saints, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.

I was cast out of Eden because of envy. It was a terrible fall. But You, O Master, did not overlook me. But You assumed my nature for me, and You were crucified. And You save me and bring me into glory. O my Redeemer, glory to You! [GOASD]

Verse: We were filled with Your mercy in the morning, and in all our days we greatly rejoiced and were glad; gladden us in return for the days You humbled us, for the years we saw evil things. And behold Your servants and Your works, and guide their sons. [SAAS]

Σταυροφανῶς Μωυσῆς.

When Moses stood on the mountain extending * upwards his arms in the form of a cross, Amalek was routed. * When on the ven’rable Cross You extended * Your hands, O Savior, You held me * in Your embrace and You saved me from enslavement to the foe. * And thus You gave me a token of life to escape from the longbow of my enemies. * O deliver Your people from the hand of Your foes, in Your benevolence. Verse: And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the works of our hands. [SAAS]

O holy Martyrs, even after death, you shine on the world like luminaries, for you fought the good fight. Now that you have confidence when praying to Christ, entreat Him to have mercy on our souls. [GOASD]

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, our devout Father Afxentios, whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
