Antiphon 1. Mode 2.

Verse 1: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and everything within me, bless His holy name. [SAAS]

Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, Savior, save us.

Verse 1: Praise the Lord, O my soul! I shall praise the Lord while I live; I shall sing to my God as long as I exist. [SAAS]

Save us, O Son of God, who are wondrous in the saints. We sing to You, Alleluia.

Verse 2: Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob; his hope is in the Lord his God.

Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

Mode pl. 1.

You have given us the miracles of Your holy Martyrs as an impregnable fortress, O Christ our God. At their entreaties, frustrate the plots of foreign enemies, and strengthen our nation, for You alone are good and benevolent. [SD]

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

The glorious Martyrs, although weak in flesh, were made strong by the Passion of Christ, and they overthrew the murderer of mankind. [SD]

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

The Martyrs of Christ rejoiced, as they received unmingled delight in spirit, in return for the pain they suffered in the body. [SD]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

The weakness of female nature was strengthened by the Cross. Therefore, they manfully triumphed over the evil dragon. [SD]

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Theotokion.

O Mother of God, you alone became the cause of supernatural blessings for us on earth. Therefore, we cry to you the salutation: Rejoice. [SD]

Ode vi. Mode 4. N/M (I will sacrifice to You.)

Θύσω σοι μετὰ φωνῆς.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

The Martyrs chose to be sacrificed for Christ, rather than to sacrifice to the devil. They preferred the Lord, who in His compassion was sacrificed for us like a sheep, over the wicked tyrant. [SD]

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

The men who with no mercy scraped the Martyrs were themselves struck with pain. But for the saints who were being scraped, the wounds wondrously became like darts of infants, for the Holy Spirit strengthened them. [SD]

Glory.

Those two men of single mind confessed You in faith to be Lord and King of all creation, and they resisted the lawless during their good contest, even to the point of shedding their blood. [SD]

Both now. Theotokion.

O Virgin Mother, by your childbirth we were delivered from the curse of our first mother, Eve; for instead of it, you made the blessing to well up for all when you gave birth to Christ. [SD]

The reading is from Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.

1 Cor. 12:27-31; 13:1-8

Brethren, you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. The Gospel

For the Saints.

The reading is from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Mt. 10:1, 5-8

At that time, Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

DISMISSAL

Glory to You, O Christ our God. Glory to You.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy Unmercenaries Cyrus and John, the Wonder-workers, whose memory we celebrate, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.

Fasting Rule

Strict: Refrain from meat, fish, oil, dairy, and eggs.

It is a Wednesday or Friday.
