When he led the Ark of God * and all the people across * River Jordan then of old, * Joshua the son of Nun * was foreshadowing the future blessing. * The passover of both, which was mystical, * was an image and a type truly infallible * that foreshadowed our re-formation * and regeneration in the Spirit. * Christ appeared in the Jordan River, * to sanctify the waters. This is the time we celebrate * the epiphany of God. * In the Jordan, Christ appeared * to us. O faithful, let us come * and draw the water of the forgiveness of all our sins. * For Christ has in the flesh come down to earth to seek * the sheep that had been lost and left for beasts to devour; * and when He found it He returned it to Paradise, * for He is compassionate. * Christ appeared in the Jordan River, * and He has enlightened the world. Devout Father, the proclamation of your achievements went forth into all the earth. For your labors you found the reward in heaven. Once you were planted, like the Psalm says, in the courts of your Lord, * you blossomed forth the most resplendent virtues pleasantly, * and you filled the desert with spiritual children * who were watered with showers of your ardent tears, * as the leader of divine monastic shrines of God. * So we cry to you: Rejoice, Father Theodosios! Although you were human in nature, O Father, you seemed a compatriot of angels. O wise one, you discarded all care for the flesh, and you lived on earth as one bodiless. Therefore you hear us saying: [SD]

Rejoice, the son of a devout father; rejoice, the offspring of a pious mother.

Rejoice, international settler of the desert; rejoice, brightly shining star of the whole world.

Synaxarion

From the Menaion.

On January 11 we commemorate our devout father Theodosios, the Cenobiarch and Mentor of the Wilderness.

On this day is the Synaxis in honor of the myriads of holy Angels. It was held in the Martyrium of St. Anastasia at the Colonnade of Domninus.

On this day we also commemorate St. Stephen in Placidiane, and St. Theodore and St. Agapios the Archimandrite.

On this day St. Major died by torture.

On this day devout St. Vitalius reposed in peace.

Devout St. Theodosios, Abbot of Philotheou Monastery on Athos, who also became Bishop of Trebizond, reposed in peace.

By their holy intercessions, O God, have mercy on us. Amen.
