God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

Ὅτε κατῆλθες πρὸς τὸν θάνατον, ἡ ζωὴ ἡ ἀθάνατος, τότε τὸν ᾅδην ἐνέκρωσας, τῇ ἀστραπῇ τῆς θεότητος· ὅτε δὲ καὶ τοὺς τεθνεῶτας, ἐκ τῶν καταχθονίων ἀνέστησας, πᾶσαι αἱ δυνάμεις τῶν ἐπουρανίων ἐκραύγαζον· Ζωοδότα Χριστέ, ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν δόξα σοι.

When You descended unto Death, O Lord, You who are immortal Life put Hades to death, by the lightning of Your divinity. And when You raised the dead from the netherworld, all the hosts of heaven sang aloud to You, "O Christ God, Giver of life, glory to You!" [GOASD]

Ὁ εὐσχήμων Ἰωσήφ, ἀπὸ τοῦ ξύλου καθελών, τὸ ἄχραντόν σου Σῶμα, σινδόνι καθαρᾷ εἱλήσας καὶ ἀρώμασιν, ἐν μνήματι καινῷ κηδεύσας ἀπέθετο· ἀλλὰ τριήμερος ἀνέστης, Κύριε, παρέχων τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

When he took down Your immaculate Body from the Cross, the honorable Joseph wrapped it in a clean linen shroud with spices and laid it for burial in a new tomb. But on the third day You arose, O Lord, and granted the world Your great mercy. [SD]

Ἡ ἀμνάς σου Ἰησοῦ, κράζει μεγάλη τῇ φωνῇ. Σὲ Νυμφίε μου ποθῶ, καὶ σὲ ζητοῦσα ἀθλῶ, καὶ συσταυροῦμαι καὶ συνθάπτομαι τῷ βαπτισμῷ σου· καὶ πάσχω διὰ σέ, ὡς βασιλεύσω σὺν σοί, καὶ θνήσκω ὑπὲρ σοῦ, ἵνα καὶ ζήσω ἐν σοί· ἀλλʼ ὡς θυσίαν ἄμωμον προσδέχου τὴν μετὰ πόθου τυθεῖσάν σοι. Your maiden Martyr, like a lamb, cries out, "O Jesus, for You, * my pure Bridegroom, I long; and seeking You I compete; * and I am crucified and buried with You in Your baptism. * I suffer for Your sake, that I may reign with You. * I die for You that I may also live in You. * Accept me as an unblemished sacrifice * as I offer myself to You with love." * At her entreaties and intercessions, * save our souls, O Merciful Lord. [SD]

Ταῖς Μυροφόροις γυναιξί, παρὰ τὸ μνῆμα ἐπιστάς, ὁ Ἄγγελος ἐβόα· Τὰ μύρα τοῖς θνητοῖς ὑπάρχει ἁρμόδια· Χριστὸς δὲ διαφθορᾶς ἐδείχθη ἀλλότριος· ἀλλὰ κραυγάσατε· Ἀνέστη ὁ Κύριος, παρέχων τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

The Angel who had come to the sepulcher said to the Myrrh-bearing women, "Ointments are appropriate for mortal men; but Christ is indeed a stranger to decay. Now go proclaim that the Lord has risen and granted the world His great mercy." [GOASD]

Ἔτι καὶ ἔτι ἐν εἰρήνῃ τοῦ Κυρίου δεηθῶμεν.

Again and again, in peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Help us, save us, have mercy on us, and protect us, O God, by Your grace.

Τῆς παναγίας, ἀχράντου, ὑπερευλογημένης, ἐνδόξου, δεσποίνης ἡμῶν Θεοτόκου καὶ ἀειπαρθένου Μαρίας μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων μνημονεύσαντες, ἑαυτοὺς καὶ ἀλλήλους καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ζωὴν ἡμῶν Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ παραθώμεθα.

Commemorating our most holy, pure, blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Τὴν ἄχραντον Εἰκόνα σου, προσκυνοῦμεν ἀγαθέ, αἰτούμενοι συγχώρησιν τῶν πταισμάτων ἡμῶν, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός· βουλήσει γὰρ ηὐδόκησας σαρκί, ἀνελθεῖν ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ, ἵνα ῥύσῃ οὓς ἔπλασας, ἐκ τῆς δουλείας τοῦ ἐχθροῦ· ὅθεν εὐχαρίστως βοῶμέν σοι· Χαρᾶς ἐπλήρωσας τὰ πάντα ὁ Σωτὴρ ἡμῶν, παραγενόμενος εἰς τὸ σῶσαι τὸν κόσμον.

We venerate Your immaculate icon, O good Lord, and entreat You to forgive our offenses, O Christ our God. By Your own choice you were pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, to deliver us, whom You created, from our slavery to the foe. Therefore we cry to You with gratitude: You have filled all things with joy, O our Savior, by coming to save the world. [SD]

Ἀναστάσιμον.

Resurrectional.

Στίχ. Ὁ Κύριος ἐβασίλευσεν, εὐπρέπειαν ἐνεδύσατο, ἐνεδύσατο Κύριος δύναμιν καὶ περιεζώσατο.

Verse: The Lord reigns; He clothed Himself with majesty; the Lord clothed and girded Himself with power. [SAAS]

Τὸν λίθον τοῦ μνήματος, σφραγισθῆναι μὴ κωλύσας, τὴν πέτραν τῆς πίστεως, ἀναστὰς παρέσχες πᾶσι, Κύριε δόξα σοι.

Not barring the stone of the tomb from being sealed shut, You rose and You granted unto all the rock of faith. Glory to You, O Lord. [SD]

Μαρτυρικόν.

For the Martyrs.

Στίχ. Θαυμαστὸς ὁ Θεὸς ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις αὐτοῦ.

Ὅτε τοῖς ἄθλοις ἠγωνίσαντο τοῦ Κυρίου οἱ Μάρτυρες, τότε τὸ θράσος ἠμαύρωται τῶν ἀσεβῶν διὰ πίστεως· ὅτε δὲ τὴν πλάνην τῶν εἰδώλων ἐνθέως κατήργησαν, τότε τοὺς στεφάνους τῆς νίκης ἐδέξαντο ἄνωθεν, καὶ πρεσβεύουσιν ὑπὲρ τῶν ψυχῶν ἡμῶν.

When the Martyrs of the Lord competed in the contests, then through their faith the audacity of the ungodly was dimmed. Also, when inspired by God they brought an end to the error of idolatry, then they received the crowns of victory from on high. And now they intercede on behalf of our souls. [SD]

Ἡ Παρθένος καὶ Μήτηρ σου Χριστέ, ἐπὶ ξύλου ὁρῶσά σε νεκρὸν ἡπλωμένον, κλαίουσα πικρῶς, Υἱέ μου ἔλεγε· τί τὸ φοβερὸν τοῦτο μυστήριον, ὁ πᾶσι δωρούμενος ζωήν τὴν αἰώνιον, ἑκουσίως ἐν Σταυρῷ πῶς θνῄσκεις, θάνατον ἐπονείδιστον;

O Christ, Your virgin Mother saw You stretched out on the Cross, and she cried bitterly and said, "O my Son, what is this awful mystery? You who give life eternal to all, how is it that You voluntarily die a painful death on a cross?" [SD]

Τὰ μύρα θερμῶς, τῷ τάφῳ προσκομίζουσαι, Γυναῖκες Σωτήρ, Ἀγγέλου τῇ λαμπρότητι, τὰς ψυχὰς ἠγάλλοντο, καὶ Θεόν σε τῶν ὅλων ἐκήρυττον, καὶ Μαθηταῖς ἐβόων· Ὄντως ἀνέστη ἐκ τάφου ἡ πάντων ζωή.

The Women with zeal brought spices to Your sepulcher. * Their souls leapt for joy beholding the Angel's dazzling light. * And they boldly proclaimed You the King of all; * and said to the Disciples, * "Truly the Life of all has risen from the grave." [SD]

Δόξα· καὶ νῦν. Τὸ αὐτό.

Having beheld the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. Your Cross, O Christ, we venerate, and Your holy Resurrection we praise and glorify. For You are our God; apart from You we know no other; we call upon Your name. Come, all faithful, let us venerate the holy Resurrection of Christ; for behold, through the Cross, joy has come to the whole world. Ever blessing the Lord, let us praise His Resurrection; for having endured the Cross for us, He destroyed death by death. [GOA]

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Παρθενίας κάλλεσι, πεποικιλμένη παρθένε, καὶ Μαρτύρων στέμμασι, στεφανωθεῖσα Εἰρήνη, αἵματι τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐῤῥαντισμένη, θαύμασι καταστραφθεῖσα τῶν ἰαμάτων, εὐσεβῶς Μάρτυς ἐδέξω, βραβεῖον νίκης τῆς σῆς ἀθλήσεως.

You, O virgin maiden, were adorned in the beauty of virginity, and you were crowned with the halo of Martyrs; you were sprinkled with the blood of your martyrdom, and you were dazzling with miraculous cures. Thus, O Martyr Irene, you rightly received the award for winning your contest. [SD]

Τοῦ νυμφίου Χριστοῦ ἔρωτι, Παναοίδιμε, ἀπὸ βρέφους σεμνὴ πυρποληθεῖσα ἔδραμες, δορκὰς ὡς διψῶσα πηγαῖς ἀειρύτοις, καὶ τῇ ἀθλήσει σαυτὴν συντηρήσασα, ἐν τῷ ἀφθάρτῳ, ὄντως τοῦ Κτίστου σου θαλάμῳ ἔνδοξε, ὡς νύμφη εὐκλεής, ἐστολισμένη, πεποικιλμένη, εἰσῆλθες ὡς ἐκλεκτή, στεφανηφόρος ὁραθεῖσα, ἐξ ἀφθάρτου νυμφίου δεξαμένη, ὡς χρυσίον, βραβεῖον νίκης τῆς σῆς ἀθλήσεως.

You, all-lauded maiden, were on fire with love for Christ the Bridegroom. So you ran, like a thirsty gazelle to the ever-flowing springs. You preserved yourself, through martyrdom, and you went inside the truly incorruptible bridal chamber of your Creator, O glorious Irene, as a glorious bride, adorned in various colors, as one chosen, wearing a crown, and from the incorrupt Bridegroom you received, as if gold, the award for winning your contest. [SD]

Τὸ Χαῖρε ταῖς Μυροφόροις φθεγξάμενος, τὸν θρῆνον τῆς προμήτορος Εὔας κατέπαυσας, τῇ Ἀναστάσει σου, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, τοῖς Ἀποστόλοις δὲ τοῖς σοῖς κηρύττειν ἐπέταξας, ὁ Σωτὴρ ἐξανέστη τοῦ μνήματος.

In saying Rejoice to the myrrh-bearers, You allayed the lament of the first mother Eve, at Your Resurrection, O Christ our God. And You ordered Your Apostles to proclaim, * "The Savior has risen from the sepulcher." [SD]

On May 5 we commemorate the holy Great Martyr Irene.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ, ἄθλησις τῶν Ἁγίων Μαρτύρων Νεοφύτου, Γαΐου καὶ Γαϊανοῦ. Τελεῖται δὲ ἡ αὐτῶν σύναξις ἐν τῷ σεπτῷ καὶ σεβασμίῳ ναῷ τῶν Ἁγίων ἐνδόξων καὶ θαυματουργῶν Ἀναργύρων Κοσμᾶ καὶ Δαμιανοῦ, τῷ ὄντι ἐν τοῖς Δαρείου.

On this day we also commemorate the contest of the holy Martyrs Neophytus, Gaius, and Gaianus. The service in their honor is celebrated in the august and venerable church of the holy, glorious, and wonderworking Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, in the Quarter of Darius.

Ὑπὲρ Χριστοῦ παθόντες μέχρι θανάτου, ὦ ἀθλοφόροι Μάρτυρες, ψυχὰς μὲν ἔχετε εἰς οὐρανοὺς ἐν χειρὶ Θεοῦ, καὶ κατὰ κόσμον ὅλον, δορυφορεῖται ὑμῶν τὰ λείψανα. Ἱερεῖς καὶ Βασιλεῖς προσκυνοῦσι, καὶ λαοὶ πάντες ἐπαγαλλόμενοι, συνήθως βοῶμεν· Ὕπνος τίμιος ἐναντίον Κυρίου, ὁ θάνατος τῶν Ὁσίων αὐτοῦ.

O medal-winning Martyrs, for Christ you suffered to the point of death. Now your souls are in heaven in the hand of God, and your relics are processed throughout the world. Clergy and world leaders venerate them, and all people rejoice, and we shout the well known verse: "Precious sleep in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints." [SD]

The Angel said to the Myrrh-bearing Women, "Why have you come to the tomb? Why are you looking among the dead for the One who is alive? The Lord has risen! Be of good cheer!" [SD]

And let us ask for a Christian end to our life, peaceful, without shame and suffering, and for a good defense before the awesome judgment seat of Christ.

The Women came with fear to the tomb, eager to anoint Your Body with spices. When they did not find it, they were at a loss and began to ask each other about it, for they did not yet know about the Resurrection. Then an Angel appeared to them and said, "Christ is risen, granting you the great mercy." [SD]

It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing to Your name, O Most High, to proclaim Your mercy in the morning and Your truth at night. [SAAS]

Ὁ εὐσχήμων Ἰωσήφ, ἀπὸ τοῦ ξύλου καθελών, τὸ ἄχραντόν σου Σῶμα, σινδόνι καθαρᾷ εἱλήσας καὶ ἀρώμασιν, ἐν μνήματι καινῷ κηδεύσας ἀπέθετο· ἀλλὰ τριήμερος ἀνέστης, Κύριε, παρέχων τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

When he took down Your immaculate Body from the Cross, the honorable Joseph wrapped it in a clean linen shroud with spices and laid it for burial in a new tomb. But on the third day You arose, O Lord, and granted the world Your great mercy. [SD]

Ταῖς Μυροφόροις γυναιξί, παρὰ τὸ μνῆμα ἐπιστάς, ὁ Ἄγγελος ἐβόα· Τὰ μύρα τοῖς θνητοῖς ὑπάρχει ἁρμόδια· Χριστὸς δὲ διαφθορᾶς ἐδείχθη ἀλλότριος· ἀλλὰ κραυγάσατε· Ἀνέστη ὁ Κύριος, παρέχων τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

The Angel who had come to the sepulcher said to the Myrrh-bearing women, "Ointments are appropriate for mortal men; but Christ is indeed a stranger to decay. Now go proclaim that the Lord has risen and granted the world His great mercy." [GOASD]

Christ is risen from the dead, by death trampling down upon death, and to those in the tombs He has granted life.
